There are ideas so preposterous that only intellectuals could believe them. Shira Efron's recent New York Times essay belongs to this distinguished category. Her moral framework for Israel's conduct in Gaza is so divorced from reality that one must ask: Has any nation ever successfully defended itself using the principles she advocates?
