Report: Stephen Moore to Resign from Heritage Foundation After Kevin Roberts Defends Tucker Carlson
The economist’s departure underscores growing revolt inside Heritage over Roberts’s moral and strategic failures.
A since-deleted tweet from Anne Carey Moore, wife of economist Stephen Moore, suggested that her husband plans to resign from the Heritage Foundation after twelve years. In her reply to Meghan McCain, she wrote that when someone fails to “do the right thing in the first place from such a place of privilege, you don’t get a second chance,” before adding that her husband would be stepping down after “twelve meaningful years at Heritage.”
Moore, a close advisor to President Donald Trump, stepping down would signal just how serious the concerns within the institution have become.
Moore’s reported decision follows mounting controversy surrounding Heritage president Kevin Roberts. Roberts recently defended his “personal friend” Tucker Carlson after Carlson interviewed white nationalist Nick Fuentes, who has praised Hitler and denied the Holocaust. Instead of condemning the platforming of such rhetoric, Roberts portrayed his defense as an act of loyalty against “cancel culture.” The fallout has fueled anger within conservative and Jewish circles, leading to multiple resignations from Heritage’s antisemitism task force and exposing deep fractures over integrity and leadership at one of the movement’s flagship institutions.
